SSL And Apache

• Apache supports SSL encryption.
  • It requires an implementation of SSL software.
    • Examples are SSLeay and OpenSSL.
  • It requires the mod_ssl Apache-SSL interface module.
  • Apache listens on port 80 for http requests and on port 443 for https requests.

• Apache will only use SSL if:
  • It has been configured with SSL modules support.
  • The startssl parameter is given to the apachectl startup script with the default Apache configuration file, or if SSL is enabled in the configuration file.
  • The key is password encrypted, the correct password must be given.
