• Secure Sockets Layer provides a means of encrypting transmissions.
  • It was developed by Netscape.
  • Provides an encrypted TCP/IP pathway between hosts.
  • It encrypt any TCP protocol such as HTTP and FTP.

• SSL encryption:
  • Uses public key and other systems to exchange a session key.
  • The session key is used to encrypt traffic.
  • Any one of several encryption algorithms can be used.
