- Secure Sockets Layer provides a means of encrypting transmissions.
- It was developed by Netscape.
- Provides an encrypted TCP/IP pathway between hosts.
- It encrypt any TCP protocol such as HTTP and FTP.
- SSL encryption:
- Uses public key and other systems to exchange a session key.
- The session key is used to encrypt traffic.
- Any one of several encryption algorithms can be used.
