• A self signing certificate is when the owner of the digital certificate and the certifying authority are the same entity.

• One should consider a self signing certificate if:
  • The cost of buying digital certificate from a certifying authority is high.
  • Connecting clients are willing to trust a self signing certificate.
    • There is no third party to vouch the identiy of the owner.
