Backup Strategy

• In case of an operating system crash or power failure, InnoDB itself does all the job of recovering data.
  • But to be sure, observe the following guidelines:
    • Always run the MySQL server with the --log-bin=log_name.
      • Where log_name is a file located on some safe media different from the drive on which the data directory is located.
      • This is also good for disk load balancing.
    • Make periodic full backups.
      • Use mysqldump for backup.
    • Make periodic incremental backups.
    • Test the backups.
